from the Founder
 The
UCSF Molecular Design Institute was established in 1993 as an academic
research institute of the University of California San Francisco to promote
the discovery, design and delivery of novel pharmaceutical agents. Structure
based molecular design, which applies principles of chemistry, medicinal
chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology to the design and development
of bioactive agents such as drugs, is an area of particular strength at
UCSF.
It is our goal to stimulate government
and industry research through direct collaborative programs and educational,
licensing and technology transfer activities. It is an auspicious time
to explore improvements in health care. Academia and industry must work
together, seeking innovative partnerships and new opportunities to expand
their basic and applied research efforts.
